509 Bride

Wedding Wednesday

Picture this….

It’s your wedding day. Your flowers are perfect, your hair is flawless, your makeup stunning. You’ve been dreaming of this day forever. It’s almost time for your ceremony, and you have been stuck in a room getting ready all morning that’s filled with hairspray, makeup setting spray, and maybe some perfume. All you want to do is see your almost-husband (or wife), and celebrate with them. Your nerves MIGHT get the best of you before you do though. But do you know what the best thing about all of that is? It doesn’t have to be that way!

Now, I will be the first one to say that I LOVE first looks. As a photographer, I think I would have to be crazy not to, but it might not be for the reason you expect. Sure, it can cue the water works of even the toughest manly man.

It can get me emotional, and I start crying (not too surprising there). But mostly it’s all about my couples.

When you choose to do a first look on your wedding day, you’re doing a few things. You are allowing yourself time with your future husband/wife. You are giving yourselves a chance to ease those nerves before you stand in front of 100-400 people. And you are allowing yourself the chance to get to celebrate with family and friends after the ceremony!

Your wedding day goes by so quick, and if you choose to not do a first look, you really don’t have any time (except maybe a few minutes after the ceremony) with just the two you. When you do a first look, you’re able to spend upwards of an hour with each other, just the two of you (and your photographer). You’re able to ease those nerves you may have, and then after the ceremony, you aren’t stuck taking hours of photos while your guests wonder where you are. Nobody wants to do that. Am-I-Right?

Photography wise, when you choose to do a first look, you can get up to 40% more photos of the two of you. You have more freedom to go where you want to go if there’s a specific location you want, and even have the option for multiple locations. I’ve seen it quite a few times when couples only have 3-5 minutes of portraits after the ceremony because so many things just made the timeline later and later.  It happens. You make the best of it, but if there was a way you didn’t have to stress about that, wouldn’t you want to do it?

My job is never to persuade someone one way or another. It is YOUR wedding day after all, but I think I have made my case! I love photographing first looks, and getting all the photos out of the way, and letting my couples enjoy the rest of their wedding day, and doing a first look before the ceremony is just the way to make that happen."
